Daddy Pig is set to take on the iconic TCS London Marathon on Sunday 26 April, stepping beyond the screen to participate in the real-world event. This follows the recent announcement that George Pig is moderately deaf, prompting a meaningful effort to raise both funds and awareness for the National Deaf Children’s Society.

In a unique first for the Peppa Pig family, Daddy Pig will not only feature in a marathon storyline within an upcoming episode but will also run the race in reality, wearing a specially designed costume. By doing so, he transforms a widely recognised mass participation event into a moment that highlights the experiences of children who see and hear the world differently.

A Fundraising Effort For Deaf Children

There are approximately 54,000 children in the UK living with hearing loss. Reflecting this, Daddy Pig aims to raise £54,000 to support deaf children and their families through the National Deaf Children’s Society. This initiative seeks to provide meaningful support and bring greater visibility to the challenges faced by these children.

Supporters will be able to follow Daddy Pig’s progress during the marathon using the official event app. On the day, a Peppa Pig Fan Zone will also form part of the celebrations, offering an engaging space for families and supporters.

Marathon Day Activities And Fan Experience

Marathon Day will feature a range of themed activities designed to involve fans and families. The Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea Bus will be located on Jamaica Road in London, where visitors can create signs to support runners and enjoy themed refreshments alongside music provided by a live DJ.

These activities aim to foster a sense of community and encouragement while celebrating the participation of Daddy Pig and others running for the same cause.

Voices Supporting The Cause

The National Deaf Children’s Society has expressed strong appreciation for the initiative, highlighting the importance of fundraising efforts in providing essential services. These include helpline support, campaigning work, and specialist local assistance for families.

Representatives involved in the Peppa Pig franchise have also emphasised their commitment to raising awareness and supporting children with hearing loss. Daddy Pig will be joined by more than 50 runners representing the charity, including parents of children affected by hearing loss, and has been training with a celebrity coach yet to be revealed.

A parent taking part in the marathon shared how the charity has supported their family following their child’s diagnosis, noting the importance of even small contributions in making a difference. Balancing training with work and family life presents challenges, but the motivation to support the cause remains strong.

Organisers of the London Marathon have welcomed Daddy Pig’s participation, noting that hearing loss and deafness are often unseen disabilities. His involvement is seen as an opportunity to raise awareness while encouraging inclusivity.

Inclusive Storytelling And Representation

Peppa Pig has a history of promoting inclusive storytelling, featuring characters that reflect a range of lived experiences. This marathon storyline builds upon that approach, reinforcing the importance of representation in children’s media.

Research conducted by the brand indicates that a large majority of UK parents value inclusive content for children. Among parents of children with hearing loss, nearly all respondents believe that representation on screen has a positive impact.

Mini London Marathon And School Involvement

Ahead of the main event, Daddy Pig and the Peppa Pig family will appear at the TCS Mini London Marathon on Saturday 25 April. This event, held around St James’s Park, is the UK’s largest one-day children’s sporting event and encourages participation through a range of themed activities.

The National Deaf Children’s Society will also be present to provide information and raise awareness. In addition, a dedicated resource pack has been developed for schools taking part in the virtual Mini London Marathon, enabling children to join the event within their own educational settings.
