Osberton Introduces New Pony One Star Event

Osberton launches the UK’s first pony one-star eventing class, supporting young riders on their pathway to international competition.

Osberton will introduce a new one-star eventing class for pony riders, marking the first time such a class has been held in the UK. This development reflects a focused effort to provide age-appropriate international competition opportunities for young riders while supporting their long-term progression within the sport of eventing.

A Significant Step for Pony Eventing

The Project Pony CCIP one-star class will take place during the first of Osberton’s two events, scheduled for late May. It is set to run on a Saturday, a decision made to ensure accessibility for riders who are balancing competitive ambitions with school commitments. This careful scheduling demonstrates a clear understanding of the needs of young competitors and their families.

The class is specifically aimed at riders who are not yet ready to step up to CCIP two-star level. By introducing a one-star option, organisers intend to bridge the gap between national competition and higher-level international classes, allowing riders to gain valuable experience without unnecessary pressure.

Developing Young Riders for the Future

The organisers at BEDE Events have highlighted that the new pony one-star class aligns closely with their wider commitment to supporting the future of eventing. Providing structured and supportive opportunities for young riders is seen as essential to sustaining the sport and encouraging emerging talent to remain engaged as they progress through the levels.

Eligibility for the class follows FEI pony competition rules, with riders aged between 12 and 16 permitted to compete. Riders must have achieved the necessary one-star qualification standard, including a BE105 result, and ponies are required to hold an FEI measuring certificate to ensure fairness and consistency across the competition.

Osberton’s Evolving Eventing Programme

The addition of the pony one-star class strengthens Osberton’s eventing programme and enhances its reputation as a venue that caters to both developing and established competitors. By expanding its offerings for younger riders, Osberton continues to position itself as a forward-thinking fixture within the British eventing calendar.

The introduction of the pony one-star event at Osberton represents an important and thoughtful progression for youth eventing in the UK. It offers young riders a valuable stepping stone towards international competition while maintaining appropriate standards and support.
