There’s something truly magical about horse riding in the heart of London. For me, it’s not just about being on a horse it’s about seeing one of the world’s greatest cities from a completely different perspective.
I ride with Hyde Park Stables, just off Bathurst Mews. It’s a quiet little corner that feels like it belongs in the countryside, not just minutes from Oxford Street or Paddington. As soon as I arrive, the city noise fades away. The horses are calm, beautifully looked after, and the team make you feel completely at ease whether you’re a beginner or have years of experience.
Then, once you're in the saddle and clip-clopping your way into Hyde Park, it really hits you. You're riding past Kensington Gardens, the Serpentine, and those iconic London views
all from horseback. It's peaceful, beautiful, and feels like you've stepped into another world.
Why Horse Riding in London Feels So Special
In most big cities, it's hard to slow down. London is fast, full of people, full of movement and I love that energy. But horse riding gives you a different kind of connection to the city. You see it at a slower pace, you breathe a little deeper, and you remember how much green space we actually have here. Hyde Park is right in the centre of London, yet when you're riding through it, all you hear are hooves on the track, birdsong, and the occasional dog walker. It's peaceful in a way that few people realise.
You don’t need any riding experience either I’ve seen total beginners fall in love with it after just one session. The instructors are experienced and friendly, and the horses are incredibly well-trained. Hyde Park Stables offers private and shared rides, as well as riding lessons in their own arena. You can do a one-off experience or build your skills over time.
Why London Is the Perfect City for This
London isn’t just historic it’s alive. You can visit world-class museums, catch a West End show, eat food from every corner of the world and then go horse riding in a Royal Park. There’s nowhere else quite like it.
Where else can you go from sipping coffee in Notting Hill to trotting past Kensington Palace within the hour? This is a city of contrast, of culture, of endless things to discover and riding through Hyde Park reminds me of that every single time.
So yes, I ride for the horses, the quiet, and the joy of it but I also ride to see London differently. And every time I do, I fall in love with it all over again.
