High-Flying Rachel Proudley

Nineteen-year-old Rachel Proudley pulled off a sensational win at the London International Horse Show LeMieux Puissance, clearing an impressive 2.12m on Easy Boy de Laubry Z. What makes this feat even more astonishing? Just two months ago, Rachel was tackling her first big red wall. And as if that wasn’t remarkable enough, Easy Boy had been out trail-hunting with Rachel’s father earlier in the week! The dynamic duo, fresh from their puissance debut at October’s Horse of the Year Show (where they practised over a wall made of shavings bales), were the only pair to jump clear in the fourth and final round.

The competition was fierce, featuring seasoned puissance pros like Sebastian Hughes, Commandant Geoff Curran, and previous HOYS winners. But when the field narrowed, it was down to Rachel and Easy Boy versus Jack Whitaker and Equine America Q Paravatti N. Calm as you like, Rachel approached the towering wall with poise, finding the perfect stride to sail over effortlessly. As the bricks tumbled for Jack, Rachel realised the unthinkable—she’d won it outright. “No chance!” she exclaimed when asked if she’d imagined winning. Praising Easy Boy’s bravery and scope, she gushed, “He was brilliant. I knew I could trust him, and it paid off.” From hunting to high-flying, Easy Boy truly lived up to his name—what a dude indeed!
